Mexico Got Hacked With ChatGPT Like It Was a Group Project

The Mexican government allegedly got popped by hackers using ChatGPT and Claude like they were interns who never sleep and don’t ask for HR paperwork.

Yeah. Two of the world’s most famous “please write my email” machines reportedly got dragged into a real-world government breach. Because of course they did. We built digital oracles and immediately used them to jiggle locks.

The report says attackers leveraged Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT as hacking sidekicks. Not “the AI did the whole hack” — relax, Hollywood. More like “hey robot, explain this error message, write this script, translate this document, help me not look stupid while I do crimes.” Which, honestly, is the most human use-case imaginable.

Translation

the barrier to entry just face-planted. You don’t need to be a wizard in a basement anymore; you can be a mediocre guy with Wi‑Fi and the confidence of a LinkedIn founder.

Meanwhile the public sector is still running on systems held together by hope, budget cuts, and one overworked IT person who hasn’t taken a real vacation since Peña Nieto.

Translation

when governments say “we take cybersecurity seriously,” what they mean is “we will schedule a meeting about it after the breach and then buy a bigger firewall from a vendor who takes everyone to steak dinners.”

The companies will do the responsible-adult thing and say they work to prevent misuse.

Translation

“please don’t regulate us, we promise we’re trying, and if you could not mention our name next to ‘government hack’ that’d be awesome.”

And for you? This isn’t a niche nerd story. It’s your taxes paying for cleanup, your data getting vacuumed up, and your rights living on servers guarded by the same energy as a mall kiosk phone case.

The Bottom Line

If your government’s security plan is vibes and procurement paperwork, AI just gave every idiot a crowbar.

TLDR

Hackers allegedly used ChatGPT and Claude to help breach Mexico’s government systems, aka crime got a productivity boost and taxpayers get the bill.
