TSMC just did $35.6B in a quarter and your economy depends on it

$35.6 billion. In one quarter. TSMC just posted Q1 revenue up 35% year-over-year, and March alone juiced 45.2% like the global economy found a cheat code and it’s called “please Taiwan, one more wafer.”

Everyone with an AI plan is basically shopping at the same store, because TSMC isn’t “a chipmaker” anymore — it’s the one kitchen that cooks the meal for Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, and half of Silicon Valley’s “we’re totally an AI company now” costume party.

Translation

your entire tech future is being routed through a handful of fabs on one island, and we’re all acting like that’s normal because the stock chart looks pretty.

TSMC doesn’t need to do marketing. Their marketing is: “Where else are you gonna go, buddy?” Samsung can compete in some stuff, Intel is still doing its long, inspirational comeback montage, and meanwhile TSMC is printing money because the world decided advanced manufacturing should be a geographic bottleneck.

The Number

45.2% — that’s the March revenue jump, aka the sound of every CEO panic-ordering compute like it’s toilet paper in 2020, except this time it’s GPUs and the hoarders wear Patagonia vests.

And this isn’t just “tech news.” When AI demand spikes, TSMC cashes the check, NVIDIA pops champagne, and you get to enjoy the downstream effects: pricier phones, pricier cloud, pricier everything that now quietly needs a data center to function. Your employer calls it “innovation,” then announces “efficiency initiatives.”

Translation

they’re buying more chips and firing more humans.

The Bottom Line

The modern economy is a single-point-of-failure system, and the failure point is an island fab that’s become everyone’s shared addiction dealer.

TLDR

TSMC pulled $35.6B in Q1 (+35%) because AI chips are basically a Taiwan-only product and now your job/rent depends on their factories not sneezing.
