69% of Americans think Iran war means $7 gas and poverty cosplay

Pew Research Center asked people what they’re worried about, and almost 7 in 10 said the same thing: not “geopolitics,” not “regional stability,” not whatever word salad gets said on cable news between pharma ads — gas prices. Because nothing says “superpower” like a nation held hostage by a plastic nozzle.

And it’s not just your commute. When gas spikes, everything turns into a little tax scam with a “sorry babe, costs are up” smile. Delivery fees creep. Grocery prices do that thing where they rise instantly and then never come back down, like an ex who “just wants closure” and also your Netflix password.

Landlords see higher utilities and suddenly your rent gets a personality change. Companies jack up prices “due to uncertainty.”

Meanwhile the people who actually control the levers — Congress, the White House, oil execs who could make a spreadsheet cry, and the defense industry’s unlimited buffet — all get to argue about “national interest” while you’re Venmo-requesting your roommate for gas money like it’s 2008 with better phones.

The part nobody says out loud is the conflict doesn’t have to reach your town to reach your wallet. It just has to whisper “supply risk” into the market’s ear and suddenly your Corolla is a luxury vehicle.
