Gas jumps, jobs dip, and Trump’s riding the bull he fed crack

Gas prices are doing that fun thing where they jump overnight and you start mentally calculating if your car can run on vibes.

Politico (via Political Wire) is pitching the nightmare combo: higher gas and rising unemployment, right as Donald Trump tries to campaign like the economy is his personal scoreboard.

This isn’t a thinkpiece problem. It’s a “your receipt just got taller” problem. Gas hits first because it shows up everywhere: your commute, your DoorDash, your groceries, your landlord’s excuse for why rent is suddenly “reflecting market conditions.”

Meanwhile unemployment ticking up is the economy’s version of hearing a floorboard creak in a horror movie. You don’t see the monster yet, but your HR department just sat up in bed.

Trump’s allies will say it’s all “temporary volatility” and “Biden’s mess” and “the deep state” and probably “windmills.”

Critics are basically arguing Trump is stuck with the forces he helped hype, unleash, and politically monetize — like lighting a firework indoors, then getting mad at the smoke alarm for being “woke.”

And the funniest part (in the way funerals are funny) is everyone in Washington will treat this like a messaging problem, while you’re out here deciding whether you can afford eggs or just the idea of eggs.
