Google just gave your phone permission to spend your money for you

Your Google Pixel can now order your groceries and book your Uber like it’s your broke little intern with your credit card.

Google’s rolling out new Gemini “actions,” which is a cute way of saying the chatbot is graduating from “I can answer trivia” to “I can touch your apps and move your real-world money around.” Groceries, rides, and “workflows” are the big flex — the assistant becomes an operator, not just a mouth.

And yes, it’s convenient. The same way it’s convenient to give a raccoon a Costco membership and hope it only buys paper towels.

The pitch is frictionless life: you say “get dinner stuff,” it taps through your grocery app; you say “book me a ride,” it grabs your location and calls the car. Great, unless you enjoy the old-fashioned thrill of remembering what permissions you handed out at 11:47pm while half-asleep and emotionally vulnerable.

The real winner here isn’t you. It’s the entire ecosystem of apps, ads, and “partners” that get a new automated shopper who never gets tired, never comparison-shops, and never goes, “Wait, why is this $32?”

Meanwhile, the scariest part isn’t the assistant making one wrong order. It’s you getting used to not thinking. Delegation is a muscle — and Google just offered to replace yours with a subscription.
