Trump’s DOT wants to defund your bus lane because migrants exist

POLITICO says the Trump-aligned Department of Transportation is pushing language to block federal transit money for states and cities that “aid” migrants. Not “smuggle.” Not “traffic.” Aid. Like shelter beds, food, bus tickets, medical care — the stuff that keeps people from dying in parking lots.

This is the highway bill as a weapon. The same pot of money that fixes bridges, buys trains, keeps buses running, and stops your commute from turning into a Mad Max audition? Yeah, now it’s a bargaining chip in a culture war where the punishment is “enjoy your 90-minute drive, peasant.”

The pitch will be wrapped in patriotic ribbon, something like “ensuring federal funds support states that uphold the rule of law.”

And it’s not abstract. Transit agencies plan projects years out. Pull funding and you get delays, cancellations, cost overruns, layoffs, and fares creeping up like a horror movie villain you can’t kill. Cities that actually have migrants — you know, the places with jobs — get hit hardest. Rural states get to cheer, then act shocked when their own roads crumble like a Nature Valley bar.

Meanwhile, the people who never take public transit will keep yelling that it’s a “waste,” while driving on roads subsidized by everyone else like it’s their God-given right.
