Anthropic hit the kill switch on a Claude clone dev

Anthropic allegedly banned the creator of “OpenClaw” from using Claude… for making something that looks a lot like Claude.

Imagine getting kicked out of a bar because you learned how to make their cocktail at home. Not even sold it. Just reverse-engineered the vibes.

OpenClaw is an open-source Claude mimic, and according to TechCrunch, Anthropic temporarily booted its creator from accessing Claude. Officially it’s “policy enforcement.”

This is the part where AI companies act like they’re building humanity’s future while running their platforms like a nightclub with a biometric bouncer. You can pay, you can behave, you can follow the rules, and you can still get tossed if you start looking… competitive.

And before anyone gets tribal—yes, every major AI shop would do the same thing if someone started building a convincing knockoff using their own tools. OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, all of them. “Open” is branding. “Access” is a subscription. “Safety” is sometimes real, and sometimes a perfectly legal way to say “don’t bite the hand that bills you.”

This isn’t just nerd drama. It’s a preview of the permissioned economy: your app, your workflow, your customer support bot, your resume screener, your side hustle—any of it can get bricked because a competitor decided you were getting a little too good at the game.
