Factory hit $1.5B making junior devs an optional accessory

$1.5 billion — for an AI coding startup called Factory, which is either the funniest name possible or the most honest threat assessment we’ve ever seen.

Investors are valuing “AI that writes software” like it’s the next operating system, because nothing says “stable future” like a hype cycle with a cap table.

TechCrunch says Factory is rocketing, and the pitch is basically: why pay a human to type bugs into existence when a machine can do it faster and with the confidence of a man explaining crypto at a wedding.

The PR version is “boosting developer productivity” and “accelerating shipping velocity.”

Translation

your company is about to ask one senior engineer to babysit a swarm of autocomplete demons and call it “efficiency.”

And yeah, senior devs will still exist—somebody has to figure out why production is down after the AI “refactored” your billing code into modern art. But entry-level? The on-ramp? The glorious era where you learn by doing easy tickets and slowly stop committing crimes against Git? That pipeline just got turned into a waterslide that ends in a parking lot.

The Number

$1.5B — that’s how much money just got slapped on “we automated the bottom rung,” which is also how every industry quietly turns into a ladder with the first three steps removed.

Meanwhile, the people getting paid are the ones who already have money, the people getting “disrupted” are the ones trying to get their first job, and the only thing “democratized” is the ability for management to demand more features by Friday with fewer humans and zero shame.

The Bottom Line

If your job happens on a laptop, Wall Street is actively shopping for a robot to do it while you’re still paying off the laptop.

TLDR

Factory just got valued at $1.5B for AI that writes code, and somehow the first thing it’s “optimizing” is the junior dev job ladder.
