15 million users and the CEO just walked off the stage like the check hit the table.

Jay Graber is stepping down as CEO of Bluesky right as the app is doing that rare social-network thing where people actually show up and stay. You don’t quit during the growth spurt unless you’re either exhausted, enlightened, or you just saw the revenue plan and it looked like a horror movie.

Bluesky’s whole brand is “we’re not Twitter, we’re the nice version with protocols,” which is adorable until payroll comes due. Servers cost money. Moderation costs money. Keeping the lights on costs money. And the only proven business model in social is: ads, subscriptions, or selling your soul in small monthly installments.

Meanwhile, the users are basically refugees carrying their timelines in bindles, begging for one platform that won’t randomly juice Nazis for engagement because Q4 was soft. And the investors are staring at 15M like it’s a fresh steak.

If you’re a normal person, this isn’t gossip. This is the part where the app either stays usable or turns into a monetized skin suit that harvests your attention to pay someone’s bonus.
