OpenAI’s “no war” promise just enlisted in a classified DoD deal

A YouTube report says OpenAI quietly signed a classified deployment deal with the U.S. Department of Defense, which is hilarious if you remember the part where OpenAI used to cosplay as a “we’re just here to help humanity” nonprofit.

They’re allegedly rolling out AI for the Pentagon with “new guardrails,” and a senior robotics team member reportedly quit because those safeguards are basically a wet paper towel taped to a missile.

And because it’s classified, the public gets the usual greatest hits: no details, no oversight you can actually see, and a vibes-based assurance that the system is totally, definitely, pinky-swear not going to do the thing everyone knows it’s going to do.

Meanwhile, a robotics person walking out is the most honest signal you’ll get. When the people building the knives start saying “uhh maybe don’t sell this to the guys who collect knives,” you should probably listen.

The money trail is the whole story. Defense budgets don’t do “freemium.” They do “unlimited credit card with your taxes.” Every tech company eventually discovers the Pentagon is the only customer that pays on time and never asks for a refund.

And yes, this lands on you. Your job gets automated, your data gets hoovered, your taxes get routed into a black box, and you’re told it’s for “security.”
